Objectives

By taking part in this medical education, you will gain comprehensive knowledge, enhance your diagnostic and treatment capabilities, and improve your patient-centred care skills. This is to help improve the diagnosis, management and outcomes for patients with LGS and their families.

The aim of this CME activity is to improve the identification and diagnosis of LGS, understanding what LGS is. This course will provide awareness of the clinical presentation of LGS and insights into the current therapies for the management of, and care of those with LGS.

By the end of this CME course, practitioners should be able to:

  • Recognise the definition of, and explain the heterogeneity of LGS, including its varied pathophysiology and clinical manifestations, age of onset, and differential diagnosis compared to other epileptic syndromes.
  • Demonstrate competency and apply the utilisation of the latest ILAE diagnostic criteria and clinical diagnostic tools.
    • Analyse and interpret diagnostic criteria of LGS (such as using clinical and EEG) and distinguish LGS from similar conditions.
  • Identify, and appraise the available treatment options for LGS, including antiepileptic drugs, surgical interventions, and dietary therapies, considering their effectiveness, limitations, and individual patient variations.
