GEP Testing in Melanoma and cSCC: Prospective SLNB Evidence and Tumor Biology

Dermatology

This podcast has been funded by Castle Biosciences.

Traditional staging remains the foundation of risk assessment in cutaneous melanoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), but it does not always tell the full story. In T1b–T2a melanoma, the decision on sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is not always clear, and in cSCC, clinicopathologic risk factors are incomplete predictors of metastatic risk. In this episode, Mohs and dermatologic surgeon Brent Moody joins host Sue Saville to discuss how gene expression profile (GEP) testing may add tumor biology to the staging information dermatologists already rely on.

Beginning with melanoma, Moody reviews prospective, multicenter data from the DECIDE study on the DecisionDx-Melanoma i31-SLNB result, and also explains how personalized risk of recurrence and distant metastasis can inform follow-up in SLN-negative patients. He then turns to high-risk cSCC, discussing how DecisionDx-SCC 40-GEP class results factor into decisions about adjuvant radiation therapy.
