In hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2–) advanced breast cancer, intervening at the emergence of ESR1 mutations might help address the endocrine resistance mechanism before the cancer becomes harder to treat.1,2 One potential intervention involves adding a blood test to monitor a patient’s circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for ESR1 mutations during first-line endocrine therapy.1,2 But adopting this workflow in academic and community practices requires a combination of institutional processes and patient-centered scheduling.3 Watch this video to learn more about these implementation strategies and how they can help minimize the burden of testing on care teams and patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • How a multidisciplinary team can collaborate to integrate ctDNA-based testing for ESR1 mutations into first-line care for HR+, HER2− advanced breast cancer
  • The role of each team member in ensuring ctDNA-based testing is incorporated into the clinical workflow
  • How patient-centered scheduling and clinical counseling can support effective monitoring for ESR1 mutations in routine care
