Delgocitinib Shows Promise for Face and Neck Atopic Dermatitis

DELGOCITINIB ointment could be an effective and safe option for patients with face or neck atopic dermatitis (AD) who are concerned about the side effects of topical steroids or tacrolimus, according to new study results.

The open-label, single-arm, multicentre clinical study included 38 patients (mean age: 40 years), with a mean AD duration of 30.7 years, and evaluated treatment satisfaction, efficacy, and safety of 0.5% delgocitinib ointment twice daily for 12 weeks on lesions caused by over 3 months of use of tacrolimus ointment or topical steroids. The primary endpoint of the study was the change in treatment satisfaction, measured using the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication-9 (TSQM-9); and secondary endpoints included changes in Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) and modified EASI (mEASI) scores, severity of side effects, numerical rating scale (NRS) for pruritus, disease control (Atopic Dermatitis Control Tool [ADCT]), skin condition at target lesions, and preference for delgocitinib ointment.

Results showed a significant improvement in TSQM-9 (Week 0: 58.8±14.7; Week 4: 68.5±16.6; Week 12: 73.2±16.0), effectiveness (57.0±14.1; 67.0±12.6; 70.9±13.4), convenience (64.9±15.0; 73.6±12.7; 76.1±13.6), mEASI (Week 0: 1.31; Week 12: 0.68, p<0.001), NRS (4.53; 2.71; p<0.001), and atopic ADCT (8.3; 5.6; p<0.01). Furthermore, there was a decrease in telangiectasia, ≥mild skin atrophy, and skin irritation; and improvement in skin conditions (dryness, appearance, feel, firmness/elasticity).

In conclusion, this study suggests that delgocitinib ointment is an effective and safe option for patients with face or neck AD. Further research is needed on the efficacy and safety of combining delgocitinib ointment with other treatments.
