Within this informative article, three major topics from the 34th ECTRIMS conference have been reviewed: i) the measurement and management of disease progression, including a discussion of the limitations of the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), the need for a shift to individualised therapy, and the new parameters that could be adopted in the clinic for monitoring purposes; ii) the management of long-term disease, where the authors speculate on the involvement of patient opinion in the decision making process and a subsequent evaluation of desired outcomes; and iii) the management of MS in women of child-bearing age, involving a detailed description of the various implications that pregnancy has for the MS patient.
