Chelmsford Football Club

About Chelmsford City FC

Founded in 1938, Chelmsford City Football Club is one of Essex’s most established football clubs, with a proud history, passionate supporter base, and deep roots within the local community. The men’s team currently competes in the National League South and the women’s team compete in Division One of the Eastern Region Women’s Football league. Both teams play home matches at the Dunmow Group Community Stadium in Chelmsford.
Whilst Chelmsford City is a football club, its reach and impact goes much wider than the fans that come along on a matchday. It is a community organisation that brings together supporters, businesses, schools, charities, and local groups through football. Alongside the first teams, there is a boys Academy, a strong women and girls pathway, community and school initiatives, a huge walking football section, a business network and multiple programmes run by the CCFC Foundation including disability football and FooTEA (hot meal provision for children in the holidays).

Ownership and Leadership

In July 2024, Spencer Gore, through the Gorely Group, acquired the majority shareholding in Chelmsford City Football Club, becoming the club’s Chairman and leading a new era of ambition and growth.
A lifelong supporter of the club and a successful business leader, Spencer’s vision is to put Chelmsford on the map with a club the whole community can be proud of. His focus is not only on first-team success, but also on improving the fan experience and the connection, reach and impact that the club has with the Chelmsford community as a whole. As well as giving the community a feel-good factor through great performances on the pitch he wants to work with local organisations and businesses to find win-win solutions that helps the city of Chelmsford as a whole.

The Connection with EMJ

As well as common ownership, the connection between the two organisations lies in the pursuit of ambitious goals, continuous improvement and the values that Spencer champions.
Entire buy in: Everyone has loyalty to our vision, values, culture, and the long-term goals of the organisation. We are committed to doing so in a positive and passionate way.
