The European Medical Journal (EMJ) has been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for 2026. This marks the second time the open-access medical publisher has secured a spot on the prestigious nationwide ranking of top UK companies, which is decided entirely by anonymous employee feedback.
Why EMJ ranked as a top medium organisation
The annual survey recognises British organisations that excel in employee engagement, workplace culture and overall employee experience. This year’s list featured 567 companies across a range of sectors, divided into size-based categories.
EMJ was featured in the Best Medium Places to Work category (comprising 218 organisations). Notably, it was the only company representing the telecommunications and publishing sector to feature in this group.
“Being named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, for a second time, is a massive achievement,” said Justin Levett, CEO, EMJ. “For us, our values aren’t just posters on the wall – the team genuinely lives and breathes them every single day. I’m incredibly proud of the culture we have, where people feel supported, ideas are listened to and everyone is driving in the same direction.”
Inside EMJ’s workplace culture and employee benefits
According to the independent survey data, EMJ scored exceptionally high across several key workplace culture metrics:
- Management trust: 89% of EMJ staff report a good relationship with their manager, and 86% feel trusted by management and colleagues to make independent decisions.
- Well-being and respect: 85% feel safe in their working environment, while 84% state they are treated with respect and feel their daily work is genuinely worthwhile.
The award listing also highlighted EMJ’s competitive UK employee benefits package, which is designed to support work-life balance and health:
- Private healthcare coverage with Aviva
- An extended 1.5-hour “gym lunch break” to promote physical fitness
- Generous annual leave, rising from 25 to 30 days based on long service
- Social initiatives, including access to a VIP box at Wembley Stadium and an annual summer ball.
