Vindana Chibabhai is Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Senior Pathologist based at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, both in South Africa.
Vindana’s experience is vast and varied, having spent time studying child health and HIV management, as well as microbiology. These days, she is an active member of Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital antimicrobial stewardship committees. In 2023 her hard work led to her receiving the Phillip V Tobias Distinguished Teacher Award from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Vindana is dedicated to raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance, healthcare associated infections, pathogen surveillance, and antimicrobial stewardship, which she talks about in her own podcast, ‘Microbe Mail’.
