Onabotulinum Toxin A Combo Improves Eye Rejuvenation

ONABOTULINUM toxin A plus KP1 cream improved periocular wrinkles and skin quality more than toxin alone.

Onabotulinum Toxin A and Skin Quality Outcomes

A case series has suggested that Definisse KP1 eye contour cream, used alongside onabotulinum toxin A, may improve periocular wrinkle outcomes and skin quality in adults with facial aging affecting the upper third of the face. KP1, also described in the abstract as Serpine A1 III (SA1 III), is a bioactive peptide developed to increase collagen type I by promoting its synthesis and limiting its degradation.

The study included adult subjects with moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles who received either onabotulinum toxin A plus Definisse KP1 eye contour cream or onabotulinum toxin A alone. The combination group included 22 subjects, while the control group included 19 subjects. Investigators evaluated both eyes four weeks after treatment.

Periocular Wrinkles Show Greater Improvement

Researchers assessed a broad set of variables, including severity of the disorder, skin hypersensitivity, erythema, oedema, periocular wrinkles, skin quality, hydration creepiness, and tightness.

In the onabotulinum toxin A plus KP1 group, all variables improved except eye erythema and eye oedema. In the control group, improvement from baseline was seen only in eye impairment severity and periocular wrinkles. These findings suggest that Definisse KP1 eye contour cream may extend the benefit of onabotulinum toxin A beyond wrinkle reduction alone, with added effects on overall skin quality.

Patient Satisfaction and Tolerability

Patient reported outcomes also favored the combined protocol. In the satisfaction questionnaire, participants in the onabotulinum toxin A plus KP1 group gave higher overall scores than those who received onabotulinum toxin A alone. According to the authors, the regimen was tolerated, feasible, and well appreciated by subjects.

The results point to a possible synergistic effect between injectable neuromodulation and topical peptide based support. The authors concluded that KP1 eye contour cream may enhance the effect of onabotulinum toxin A on periocular wrinkles while also offering additional skin quality benefits in upper face rejuvenation.
