Ultrasonography is often the preferred method of imaging for needle-guided procedures of the hip joint, including aspirations, local anaesthetic injections, and the use of corticosteroids. Phantoms (i.e., training devices mimicking human tissue and bony structures under acoustic sonography) are used to help train medical professionals to perform these procedures accurately, emphasising the art of physical simulation in unison with didactic learning.

The following highlights spotlight several standout abstracts presented at the 58th European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting, covering topics such as the effects of extended overnight fasting, the incidence of congenital heart defects in the offspring of females diagnosed with pregestational diabetes, and telehealth for the metabolic control of Type 1 diabetes.

This symposium took place at the 58th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Stockholm, Sweden. The first speaker was John L. Sievenpiper, who discussed the pathophysiology of postprandial hyperglycaemia and how it may impact the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), peripheral vascular disease, insulin resistance, and other comorbidities in patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2D).

High incidence of lung cancer in Serbia is derived from high smoking rates, the lack of a nationwide screening programme, and the presence of environmental risk factors. By histology, adenocarcinoma accounts for approximately 50% of all lung cancer cases, with approximately 60% of new diagnoses already in advanced disease stages, where targeted therapies and immunotherapy are indicated.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, with a global estimation of 2.2 million new cases and 1.8 million deaths in 2020. Low-dose spiral CT-based screening has shown significant mortality reduction of lung cancer in randomised clinical trials. However, the high false-positive results (around 96%) will lead to high rates of overdiagnosis.

Sun exposure can lead to tanning, but also to skin damage due to the actions of ultraviolet A and B, visible light, and infrared radiation. One result of sun exposure is field cancerisation (FC), the precursor to actinic keratosis (AK), which in turn is a risk factor for, most notably, squamous cell carcinoma.
